Preseason Week 2 Power Rankings!

DISCLAIMER: These are NOT power rankings for the regular season.

Week 2 (which is really week 1) of the CFL preseason was... definitely preseason! In all seriousness, it was great to see all the teams back on the field. Many players were fighting for jobs, and some may have earned them on Saturday. But which teams looked the best? Let's find out and take a look at the preseason power rankings!

9: EDMONTON ELKS

Four points! Four whole points for the Elks as they fell 31-4 to the Calgary Stampeders in their first preseason action. If you're an Edmonton fan, you would have liked to see something more in this game than a measly four points on the board. As such, Edmonton falls to the bottom of this list.

8: MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Speaking of low point totals, the Alouettes managed 7 points against the Ottawa Redblacks. Davis Alexander did not look good in this game. While yes, he went 11 for 18 on pass attempts, these passes only resulted in 69 yards through one half of football. It is still only preseason, but as an Alouettes fan, you'd want more production from your new franchise quarterback.

7: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

Meh.

The Riders' loss to the Bombers with a score of 15-9 wasn't incriminatingly bad for the Riders. But it also wasn't that good. The 'Ders quarterbacks only threw for 197 yards during the game, and Trevor Harris only went 3 for 8 for 38 yards. Drae McCray looked great, however, and he is gunning for Mario Alford's returner spot. They didn't score any touchdowns, but to be fair, they didn't let Winnipeg score any either. Overall, it was definitely a preseason game.

6: BC LIONS

After a great first drive for a touchdown, BC didn't look amazing for the rest of the game. Jermaine Jackson looked good and may have earned himself a job in the contest. They were only able to manage 16 points against Calgary at home, and Jeramiah Masoli and Chase Brice combined for 178 yards after one seven yard pass from Rourke. If the Lions can drive the field more in their next preseason game, they may very well walk away with a win.

5: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Zach Collaros had a good first quarter, going 10 for 13 and throwing for 93 yards. Winnipeg's quarterback room threw for a combined 257 yards but never managed to break the plain of the endzone, scoring 15 points off the leg of Sergio Castillo in a defensive game with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Brady Oliveira looked promising on his limited touches during the game. The Bomber's quarterbacks didn't have great protection, however, as they were sacked three times during the contest.

4: TORONTO ARGONAUTS

Miyan Williams had a big game that may end up costing Ka'Deem Carey his job if he can have a repeat performance next week. Toronto did fall 24-16 against Hamilton in the Hammer, although their three quarterbacks threw for 315 yards in the contest. 4th string quarterback Tucker Horn had a great 2 quarters, throwing for 172 yards and one touchdown. Unfortunately, they will be without a free agent defensive end for a while as Bryan Cox Jr. suffered a non contact knee injury that will keep him out for a while.

3: OTTAWA REDBLACKS

The Redblacks dominated the Montreal Alouettes to win with a score of 23-7. Their defense was solid, as was their offense. The quarterback play unfortunately left something to be desired in this contest, as all four quarterbacks combined for just 165 yards during the victory.

2: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Hamilton played the most entertaining preseason game this year as they beat Toronto 24-16. Bo-Levi Mitchell stayed in the game for close to three whole quarters, but only managed to sling the rock for 101 yards. Still, the team as a whole looked good on the only preseason game on TSN in week two.

1: CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Perfect!

The Stamps finished their preseason by clobbering the Edmonton Elks in Calgary. Vernon Adams Jr. saw his first taste of action this week, throwing for 129 yards in the first and second quarter. The rest of the team showed out against the double E, limiting them to just 4 points while racking up 31 of their own. After a strong win against BC in week one and another strong one against Edmonton, Calgary may very well have won the 2025 preseason.

  1. What a difference for Calgary from last year! I’m optimistic for them.
