If you've ever played Madden or NHL or any sports game, you'll know about overall ratings. Since there is no CFL video game (yet), I thought that I would share my thoughts on what each team's overall rating would be in a CFL video game. NOTE: Overall ratings are out of 100.
BC LIONS: 86 OVR
The Lions' season started out great, but has recently faltered with Nathan Rourke failing to throw a touchdown in back-to-back-to-back games. Still, the Lions defense is quite good and they have made the playoffs. They will take on Saskatchewan next week to determine who will host the West Semi-Final.
CALGARY STAMPEDERS: 80 OVR
The Stamps have weapons all over their roster but they couldn't put all the pieces together, missing the playoffs for the first time in 20 years. The Stampeders are considered favourites by many to make a move for Vernon Adams Jr this offseason and many believe he could take them back to the playoffs.
EDMONTON ELKS: 83 OVR
The Elks somewhat overcame a disastrous 0-7 start to the season by rattling off some wins under interim head coach Jarius Jackson. Unfortunately, the Elks will miss the playoffs again after being eliminated by Saskatchewan. Tre Ford could certainly improve their rating next year if Elks management decides to actually play him next year.
SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS: 89 OVR
The Riders have made the playoffs after 2 years of being out of the dance. They went through a tough 0-6-1 stretch after their 5-1 start to the season, and have now rallied off 3 straight wins, albeit against struggling teams. When healthy, they are one of the best teams in the league and now that players are starting to come back, this is a great time for them to carry momentum into the playoffs.
WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS: 93 OVR
After a disappointing 2-6 start to the year, the Bombers have shown that they haven't missed a beat, gaining 8 consecutive wins with no signs of stopping. They are almost guaranteed to host the West Final, which would give them a huge advantage over any opponent as Princess Auto Stadium is notoriously hard to play at.
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS: 82 OVR
The Tiger-Cats started the 2024 season off very poorly, getting their first win on July 20th. With Bo-Levi Mitchell's resurgence and the Boveralls, they made a big late season push, but it may not be enough to make the playoffs. Still, the end of the season was enough to boost their overall by a few points.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS: 87 OVR
The Argos mounted a beautiful victory over the Alouettes a few weeks back which gave them some extra points in their overall rating. Since the return of Chad Kelly, the Argos have been a good team, and barring something crazy, will be headed back to the playoffs in 2024.
OTTAWA REDBLACKS: 84 OVR
Ottawa has officially clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2018. It was tough for them to clinch it, as they're currently riding a 3-game losing streak, but Ottawa has been a much improved team since the last few years, mainly thanks to big free agent signings like Dru Brown and Adarius Pickett.
MONTREAL ALOUETTES: 95 OVR
The reigning Grey Cup champs deserve all the respect they can get after leading themselves to an 11-3-1 record after 18 weeks. In the past 4 weeks they've achieved a 1-2-1 record but that hasn't changed their overall as they've already clinched the division.
