CFL Week 8 In Review

An eastern sweep was the story in this week's CFL action, with the Alouettes, RedBlacks, Argos and TiCats all getting wins against their western opponents. Let's look at this week's power rankings after the East Division dominated.

#1: MONTREAL ALOUETTES

The Als managed to pull out a win after being down 16-3 when the Riders collapsed in the 2nd half. Davis Alexander came in for Caleb Evans, and he looked like Doug Flutie in the latter portion of the game. The Alouettes now move to 6-1, the best record in the league.

#2: BC LIONS

They had a bye week! Cool! Keon Hatcher should be back this week for the Lions, so that's exciting!

#3: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

A second half collapse ended up being the difference in this game, as the Riders put up zero points in the back half of the game on their way to their second loss of the season. Frankie Hickson had a good game in relief of the injured AJ Ouellette.

#4: OTTAWA REDBLACKS

The RedBlacks dominated the Stamps, winning 33-6. TD Place was rocking as the RedBlacks marched to a 5-2 record, as Dru Brown had a great game. In the background, the RedBlacks are quietly building a good season.

#5: TORONTO ARGONAUTS

The Argos defense absolutely feasted on the Winnipeg offense, leading them to a 16-14 victory over the Bombers. The Argos sent the Bombers down to 2-6 after the victory, even though the quarterback play from both Cam Dukes and Nick Arbuckle wasn't very good.

#6: CALGARY STAMPEDERS

From a huge win over BC to a huge loss to Ottawa, it's been a rollercoaster for Calgary this year. They had no practices last week which led to the 33-6 blowout loss to Ottawa. Calgary fell to 3-4 this week, getting below .500.

#7: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

The Ti-Cats dominated most of this game until Tre Ford came in relief for McLeod Bethel-Thompson and put up three touchdowns in garbage time. The score ended up being closer than the rest of the game would have suggested, but still, back-to-back wins for the Tabbies.

#8: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

The Bombers lost a close tilt with the Argos, eventually leading to them falling to 2-6. Zach Collaros went down in this game, paving the way for Chris Streveler. Sadly, he couldn't lead his team to another victory as they lost the game in OT.

#9: EDMONTON ELKS

They finally put in Tre Ford! Again! Unfortunately, even though Ford threw for THREE touchdowns, it was too little, too late for the win. McBeth had another bad game which led to him getting booed by everyone in attendance at Commonwealth.

GAME OF THE WEEK: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS AT TORONTO ARGONAUTS

While offense wasn't spectacular in this game, the defenses were good and provided lots of action. The Argos got five turnovers over the Bombers which led them to a 16-14 win in overtime. The first OT game of the season ended up picking up near the end as Castillo missed a field goal which set up Lirim Hajrullahu for the game-winner.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: BO LEVI MITCHELL

We saw some vintage Bo action against the Elks, even though his performance was somewhat overshadowed by Tre Ford. Ford did throw for three touchdowns, but BLM threw for five on his way to scoring 44 points for his team and winning the tilt in Edmonton.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: HAKUNAVANHU HITS A HUGE RUN

Luther Hakunavanhu hit a huge catch and run over the middle of the field and burst through to the endzone to add to his team's lead. This touchdown may have been the dagger in this game, even though it only happened in the 2nd quarter.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR NEXT WEEK

Can BC improve to 6-2 and top the west?

Will Hamilton continue their winning streak and improve to 3-5?

Can Saskatchewan hold off Tre Ford and potentially match the Lions record?

Will Jake Maier be able to bounce back against the stellar Argos defense?
