Week seven of the CFL brought many things. A 110 yard game for rookie Ajou Ajou, Clint Ratkovitch's first CFL touchdown, a spectacular catch from both Ontaria "Pokey" Wilson and Jalen Philpot, more Janarion Grant madness and the return of Tre Ford. Let's dive into this week's power rankings, shall we?
#1: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (3)
The Riders defense stuffed the Bomber's offence, holding them to just three field goals. Shea Patterson looked very calm and comfortable in the pocket, playing mistake-free football again. AJ Ouellette continues to improve, notching 88 yards this week. The Riders play the potentially Cody Fajardo-less Alouettes on Thursday.
#2: BC LIONS (1)
BC lost a close one to the Stamps on Sunday, falling by a score of 25-24. Vernon Adams was held to only 192 yards, while Justin McInnis had only 55 yards. Calgary's defense did a good job shutting down BC's explosive offence for the most part, but had Ciante Evans recovered that fumble, the outcome may have been different.
#3: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (2)
The Als had a bye week, but they may be without Cody Fajardo for their tilt with the Riders which will give Caleb Evans the start.
#4: CALGARY STAMPEDERS (6)
A statement win for the Stamps as Jake Maier bloomed into veteran QB form, throwing for 307 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jalen Philpot had an insane catch, toe-tapping into the endzone to lead his team over the BC Lions, moving them to 3-3 on the season.
#5: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (4)
The Argos lost to the (then) winless Ti-Cats by a score of 27-24. Janarion Grant had a nice return for a touchdown to pull his team closer to a victory, but ultimately it wasn't enough. Hamilton did almost blow a 17-point lead, but managed to hold on to beat the Argos, who play Winnipeg next week.
#6: OTTAWA REDBLACKS (7)
Ottawa has quietly been building a solid season over in the east, with a 4-2 record through seven weeks. This game wasn't super exciting, but the Redblacks managed to put up 20 points on the winless Elks, who just got rid of Chris jones. The RedBlacks are going in a good direction with Dru Brown at the helm, and they will look to add to their totals against Calgary.
#7: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (5)
Zach Collaros threw for 266 yards, 80 of which were to Brady Olivera in the losing effort. Olivera was held to only 49 yards on the night, a far cry from the back-to-back 100 yard games on the ground. Many passes from Zach were simple checkdowns to Olivera, as the Riders defense held them to just nine points. Winnipeg will look to bounce back against Toronto next week.
#8: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (9)
The Ti-Cats got their first win of the season! They did almost blow it at the end of the game with a huge resurgence from the Argos, but they managed to hold on to best them through the final few minutes. The Tabbies move to 1-5 on the season, which is not ideal, but at least they have a win!
#9: EDMONTON ELKS (8)
We saw Tre Ford this week! That's about where the positives end for the Elks this week. They fell to 0-6 after releasing Chris Jones last week, and it seems that things really aren't looking up for the Elks. The Elks play the Ti-Cats in the Toilet Bowl next week.
GAME OF THE WEEK: TORONTO ARGONAUTS AT HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
The Argos made a big comeback at the end of this game, but the Ti-Cats held out for a nice 27-24 victory over the Argos, who fall to 3-3. Despite the records of each team, this game turned out to be a good one in a week of less-than-average games.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SHEA PATTERSON
Patterson had a big game to lead his team over the Bombers, and while his numbers weren't eye-popping, he out-dueled two-time MOP Zach Collaros. He threw for 261 yards and rushed for 35, with one touchdown and no interceptions, earning him a grade of 80.1 from PFF.
PLAY OF THE WEEK: PHILPOT TOE-TAPS INTO THE ENDZONE
Jalen Philpot recorded his first touchdown of the season on Sunday, with a beautiful toe-tap touchdown that had to be reviewed. The level of precision from Philpot to be able to get his foot down in bounds was remarkable. Apparently, great catches run in the family.
WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK
Who will win a best-in-the-league battle between the Riders and Alouettes?
Can Dru Brown keep the RedBlacks' winning streak alive against a reinvigorated Calgary team?
Can the Bombers get back into the win column against the Argos?
Who will win the Tank Bowl between Hamilton and Edmonton?
