CFL Week Four in Review

Can you say walk-off field goal? CFL week four sure can. There were THREE walk-off field goals in this week's CFL action, making for some exciting finishes, despite some of the games not being spectacular. Let's look at the power rankings!

#1: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (1)

Again, to be the best you gotta beat the best, and still no one has done so. The Alouettes won with a 10-point margin over the Cam Dukes-lead Argonauts, handing them their first home loss of 2024, and first actual loss of 2024 as well. Now the Als will look to continue their hot streak as they face the Stamps at home.

#2: BC LIONS (3)

The Lions pulled out a win in a close affair with the Elks, ending with a walk-off field goal for Sean Whyte. The Lions ended up making less mistakes in this game than the Elks, which gave them the win. They definitely could have had more points in the game, but couldn't make it happen. They look to get another win next week against the winless Ti-Cats.

#3: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (2)

Apparently, Trevor Harris' injury is worse than we thought. Unfortunately for the Riders, he'll be placed on the 6-game. They had a bye week this week, so some players were able to return to health such as Marcus Sayles, but they lost some special teamers, notably Adam Auclair and Thomas Bertrand-Hudon. The Riders will look to bounce back from the injuries with Shea Patterson in week five.

#4: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (4)

The Argos were handed their first loss of the season against the Alouettes by a score of 30-20, making that the only game that did not have a walk-off winning field goal. Cam Dukes had a good game, but ultimately it wasn't enough to win. The Argos will have their first road game of the season in a tough place to win against Shea Patterson and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

#5: CALGARY STAMPEDERS (5)

The Stamps took advantage of a starting QB going down against them, similar to last year against the Riders when Trevor Harris went down, pulling out an OT winner against the winless Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They won by three points after Rene Paredes hit a huge field goal to walk them off. The Stamps will look to build off this win against the undefeated Alouettes.

#6: OTTAWA REDBLACKS (6)

The Redblacks pulled out a walk-off field goal winner against the Tiger-Cats after a questionable squib kick call cost the Tabbies the game, and ultimately, their special teams coordinator, as they parted ways with Paul Boudreau. The Redblacks now improve to 2-1, and they now take on the winless Bombers at Princess Auto Stadium.

#7: EDMONTON ELKS (7)

They're soooo close to getting it right. The Elks keep making small mistakes at critical times to end up losing. There was some sideline disagreements in the game, so hopefully they can get all of those problems cleared up, but they're just on the cusp of victory. They have a bye week to refresh themselves.

#8: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (8)

Speaking of teams that are close to getting it right, we have the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They almost pulled out a win despite star quarterback Zach Collaros going down with an injury. Chris Streveler tried his best to lead Winnipeg to a win, but couldn't manage it in overtime. The Bombers look to bounce back with a game against the 2-1 RedBlacks.

#9: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (9)

They were so close to getting their first home win, but a costly call from newly ousted special teams coordinator ended up being the key play to give the ball back to automatic kicker Lewis Ward to ice the game. Hopefully Hamilton can grab a special teams coach who can make better calls, because you're not going to win football games that way. Their next game is against the 3-1 Lions.

GAME OF THE WEEK: MONTREAL ALOUETTES AT TORONTO ARGONAUTS

The only game that wasn't decided by a field goal! This game had a lot of great plays, especially with a 3rd-and-1 stop by the Argos and yet another good performance from Tyson Philpot. The game also had another dribble kick, which caused lots of discussion online. This was the most exciting game of the week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CODY FAJARDO

Fajardo put up great numbers in week four, especially to receivers Tyson Philpot and Cole Speiker, who had 113 yards in the victorious affair over the Argos. Fajardo again proved why he should be the number one QB in the CFL.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: ALOUETTES DRIBBLE KICK

This isn't the play of the week because it was a good play, but because of the discussion it started online. The Alouettes keep using the CFL rulebook to the fullest, but people keep talking about whether or not it should be used in the league or if it should be banned.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK

Can Shea Patterson and AJ Ouellette lead the Riders to victory over Ouellette and Corey Mace's former team?

Will Zach Collaros play and lead the Bombers to win #1?

Can Montreal stay undefeated?

Will Hamilton sneak out a win against the Lions?
