CFL Week 5 in Review

Another week of CFL football in the books, with an outstanding comeback and a dominating showing from this week. Let's take a look at how the power rankings are shaping up!

#1: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (1)

What a great comeback victory from Cody Fajardo and the Montreal Alouettes. Great mental prowess and courage to not get down on themselves after the first half and come out in the fourth quarter and out-score the Stamps. You gotta beat the best to be the best, and still, no one has done so.

#2: BC LIONS (2)

The Lions had a huge 16-point dominant victory over Hamilton this week, moving their average to 4-1. They exploited a soft defense this week, but Vernon Adams Jr and the league leading receiver Alexander Hollins will have a tough defense to face in week three.

#3: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (3)

The Riders proved they don't need Trevor Harris to win, after winning their week 5 tilt with the Argos 30-23. Their defense was impeccable, getting 5 turnovers on the day, four of which were interceptions. The Riders and their defence will have their biggest test yet when they go to BC for the Watermelon Smash game.

#4: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (4)

The Argos and Cam Dukes fell to the Riders last week. The offense had some good drives but were ultimately shut down by Saskatchewan's defense. The Argos will get a rematch with the best team in the east right now, the Alouettes, next week. They will try not to lose three games in a row.

#5: CALGARY STAMPEDERS (5)

The Stamps were so close to winning this game, but ultimately a fourth quarter collapse cost them dearly. The Stamps fell to 2-2 after that game, and they will face the 1-4 Blue Bombers next week.

#6: EDMONTON ELKS (7)

The Elks had a bye week, so not a whole lot to talk about! The Elks will face the Redblacks next week at Commonwealth Stadium.

#7: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (8)

The Bombers captured their first win of the season against the RedBlacks on Friday of last week. Chris Streveler was able to lead his team to victory in place of the injured Zach Collaros. The Bombers return to Princess Auto Stadium next week when they take on the Stamps.

#8: OTTAWA REDBLACKS (6)

Dru Brown went down in this game against the Bombers, and overall his team lost to Winnipeg and their backup, Chris Streveler. The RedBlacks will look to rebound from the loss against the winless Elks next week.

#9: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (9)

A blowout loss was the story as the tabbies lost yet another game this weekend to the BC Lions. The woes continue for this TiCats squad who just fired their special teams coordinator and hired a new one in one week. Luckily for them, they have a bye coming up.

GAME OF THE WEEK: CALGARY STAMPEDERS AT MONTREAL ALOUETTES

This was a great comeback victory from the best squad in the CFL. The Alouettes came from behind and scored 15 points to the Stamps zero in the fouth quarter.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: VERNON ADAMS JR

Adams had a dominant performance in the donut box, as his team scored 44 points on the hapless Hamilton defence. Adams will hope to continue his high-flying, high-scoring play at home against Saskatchewan.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: JANARION GRANT PUNT RETURN TOUCHDOWN

Grant torched the Riders special teams coverage unit for a huge score to put his team up by 6 early in the losing effort. Grant had many good returns to give his team good field position on Thursday's game.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK

Will Montreal move to 6-0 over the Argonauts?

Can Winnipeg pull out another win in the rematch against the Stamps?

Can the Riders stay undefeated in a battle of best-in-the-west against the Lions?

Will Edmonton get their first win against the RedBlacks?
