Wow, what a week two! First we had a great game between Winnipeg and Ottawa, with the REDBLACKS holding the Bombers off. Then we watched the Alouettes narrowly beat an 0-2 Elks team. Following that, 50 Cent rocked BC Place as the Lions beat the Stamps, and then another crazy comeback win from the Riders to best the Ticats. Let's recap it in this week's review!
Note: The number in parentheses () means where they were placed last week.
POWER RANKINGS
1: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (1)
After a close one in Edmonton, the Als remain one of three undefeated teams in the CFL. They put on a good show in Commonwealth to eventually walk away with the win. The Grey Cup champs deserve respect!
2: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (2)
The Riders pulled off ANOTHER exciting comeback win this week, this time against the Hamilton Ti-Cats. The Riders are proving that they can win games, no matter what the score may be before the clock hits zero. A few adjustments, namely penalties, run blocking and the secondary, and the Riders are a SCARY team.
3: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (3)
The Argos had a bye this week, so not a whole lot to talk about, but they did beat the Lions last week! So that's cool, I guess!
4: BC LIONS (5)
There's a win for BC! They beat the Stamps at home by nine points after 50 Cent lit it up pre-game. It was a back-and-forth contest, but the heroics of VA and the resilience of the Lions and their fans, they got into the win column for the first time in 2024.
5: OTTAWA REDBLACKS (9)
The REDBLACKS pulled off a win after a weather-delayed exciting game in the nation's capital to kick off week two. The best part of this game is when they had an interception called back, said "Aight, bet" and got a pick on the very next play. Still, good game nonetheless for the REDBLACKS.
6: CALGARY STAMPEDERS (4)
After a tough loss to the Lions in a back and forth game, the Stamps will look to bounce back in... oh, wait. They have a bye next week, so the Stamps will look to gather together and bounce back in two week's time. The Stamps did look good against the Lions, especially with the 1-2 punch running attack with BJ Emmons and Dedrick Mills, but they ended up falling to the Lions in the end.
7: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (7)
They edged closer to their first win of the season, but had many of the same problems as last week, namely drops by receivers (Tim White). Bo Levi threw for almost 400 yards, which is promising for them, but a 4th quarter collapse did them in. They will look to get revenge against the Riders next week at Mosaic.
8: EDMONTON ELKS (8)
They were SO close to their first win of the season. Their last few games have been close, exciting contests, but they just can't seem to pull out the W. They will play well pretty much the whole game, but make a few costly mistakes that ultimately cost them the game. They have a tough schedule ahead, but hopefully they can pull out a win.
9: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (6)
What a change.
If you told me that two weeks into the 2024 season a year ago that the Bombers would be 0-2 and 9th in power rankings, I would have called you crazy. But, here we are. There are a few factors that contribute to their poor record, namely injuries and age, but NO ONE would have expected them to be here.
GAME OF THE WEEK: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS AT HAMILTON TI-CATS
Another comeback victory! Seriously, if you're a Rider or Ti-Cat fan, your heart rate may have been above 100 bpm CONSISTANTLY for the final quarter of the game. It came down to the wire again, with the Riders squeaking out a walk-off field goal win to improve to 2-0, while the Ti-Cats fall to 0-2.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TREVOR HARRIS
After leading his squad to ANOTHER comeback win, Trevor Harris went 32/45, for 390 yards and 2 touchdowns. A stellar performance from the Riders pivot. Honorable mention goes to Bo Levi Mitchell, who had another great game, throwing for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns.
PLAY OF THE WEEK: REGGIE BEGELTON DIVING GRAB
When I tell you I lost my mind watching this play, let me tell you, I LOST MY MIND. What an insane catch by Begelton in the back of the endzone. Please watch replays of it when you can. It's an early candidate for catch of the year.
THE ONELESSDOWN FANTASY REVIEW™
Thank you to OneLessDown on Twitter for this idea. Let's go through my fantasy picks for this week!
DEFENSE: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (9 PTS)
QUARTERBACK: TREVOR HARRIS (46 PTS, CAPTAIN 2X PTS)
RUNNING BACK: AJ OUELLETTE (9.9 PTS)
RUNNING BACK: DEDRICK MILLS (20.5 PTS)
WIDE RECEIVER: KIAN SCHAFFER-BAKER (29.9 PTS)
WIDE RECEIVER: SAMUEL EMILUS (9.5 PTS)
FLEX: JOHNNY AUGUSTINE (13.8 PTS)
Overall, pretty good for week 2! I cashed in 137.6 points on the week, which pushes me to rank 1124 overall. I think there were a few weak spots in my fantasy, namely taking Ouellette and Emilus over Fletcher and Sterns this week, but overall, I did pretty well.
WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK
Who will stay undefeated after the matchup between the REDBLACKS and Alouettes?
Will Winnipeg continue their losing skid against BC?
Can Edmonton sneak out a win against the Toronto Argonauts?
How epic and entertaining will the rematch between the Riders and Ticats be?
