CFL Week Three in Review

Wow, has the CFL been great so far this season. So many exciting games, with ANOTHER walk off field goal in back to back weeks. The power rankings are ever-changing, so let's take a look at where each team falls.

#1: MONTREAL ALOUETTES (1)

To be the best. you gotta beat the best, and no team has done so yet. The Alouettes are one of two 3-0 teams in the CFL right now, and they show no signs of stopping. They will have to face Toronto in week four, and one of those two teams will get the first loss on their so-far perfect record.

#2: SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (2)

We saw this week what the Riders can be when they clean up their mistakes, and they're SCARY. They won a dominant game, 36-20 in their home opener against Hamilton. It was a great game for Saskatchewan heading into a bye week, which could not come at a better time. Trevor Harris and Marcus Sayles both went down with injuries, but they both looked like they could have come back into the game at any time. They have time to rest up until their next game vs Toronto in week five.

#3: B.C LIONS (4)

In a tight game with Winnipeg, the Lions came out on top. Alexander Hollins had a MONSTER game, getting as many yards receiving as a quarterback could in a game, with 215! Winnipeg was close to finally getting a win on the season, but B.C had their number. The Lions get to return back to BC Place again in week four to take on the winless Elks.

#4: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (3)

The Argos also had a close game in week three, managing to eek one out over the winless Elks at home off a walkoff field goal by Lirim Hajrullahu. Cameron Dukes continues to be a pleasant surprise for not only the Argos, but the league. The Argos have a tough matchup coming up against another undefeated team, the Als, in week four, for their third straight home game.

#5: CALGARY STAMPEDERS (6)

Calgary had a bye week! Good for them! They have looked good so far this season, however.

#6: OTTAWA REDBLACKS (5)

Unfortunately for Ottawa, when you lose by 26 points, you're probably going to move down the power rankings. They put up a better fight in the second half after a 30-1 first half, but Montreal almost put up a 50-burger on the new-look Redblacks. They will get a chance at redemption in week four when they take on the winless Ti-Cats.

#7: EDMONTON ELKS (8)

Close, but no cigar. The Elks put up a great fight against the Argos, but ended up just short after a walk-off field goal. They could easily be 3-0, but a few key mistakes in each game have them down to 0-3. Now off a short week, which quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson voiced his displeasure about, the Elks have to walk into BC Place to take on the Lions with fears of going 0-4 looming.

#8: WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (9)

The Bombers played much better this week than they did the last two weeks, losing by only two points to the B.C Lions at home. They've been plagued by injuries this year, and everyone is talking about them being an older team and finally slowing down. They hope to get some of their injured players back next week as they face the Calgary Stampeders off a bye week at McMahon.

#9: HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (7)

The Ti-Cats lost by 16 to the home-opener Riders on Sunday. There's many concerns about the Ti-Cats play, namely Bo Levi Mitchell regressing and Tim White not living up to expectations, with drops and missed assignments. They will hope to get themselves figured out in week four when they take on the Ottawa RedBlacks.

GAME OF THE WEEK: EDMONTON ELKS AT TORONTO ARGONAUTS

TEN touchdowns! A walk-off field goal! What a game! This game was extremely exciting to watch live, and the highlights on YouTube were great as well. Both Dukes and Bethel-Thompson had a great game, with Bethel-Thompson receiving player of the week and named the best quarterback of week three by PFF.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: ALEX HOLLINS

Hollins had 215 yards and two touchdowns in his team's victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. That was one of the most dominant performances we've seen from a receiver in a while. If you had Hollins in fantasy, you're laughing.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: DEVONTE DEDMON KICK RETURN TOUCHDOWN

The first return touchdown of 2024 belongs to Devonte Dedmon! A 101-yard kickoff return gave his team some life against the undefeated Alouettes in the losing effort. Hopefully we see many more return touchdowns in 2024, especially from Devonte Dedmon.

THE ONELESSDOWN FANTASY REVIEW

DEFENSE: TORONTO ARGONAUTS (-3 PTS)

QUARTERBACK: TREVOR HARRIS (26 PTS)

RUNNINGBACK: AJ OUELLETTE (18.5 PTS)

RUNNNINGBACK: KA'DEEM CAREY (21.1 PTS)

RECEIVER: KIAN SCHAFFER-BAKER (2.6 PTS)

RECEIVER: JERRETH STERNS (6.3 PTS)

FLEX: TYSON PHILPOT (29 PTS)

WEEK THREE TOTAL: 100.5 PTS

SEASON TOTAL: 324.7 PTS

This week's fantasy went pretty well, minus Trevor Harris being out for half of the game, the Argos defense and my receiver choices. 100.5 points is not a bad total, however, and I'll try to improve on that number this week.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK

Will the Elks be able to build off of last week's game and get their first win of the season?

Who will continue to be undefeated after week four, Toronto or Montreal?

Will Winnipeg get their first win in Calgary?

Can Tim White and the Ti-Cats get out of their hole?
