2024 is going to be a great year for CFL football. You can really just tell with the atmosphere around the fanbase. I just got to be a part of a mock draft with a bunch of amazing people, and we looked at some people who may turn into the CFL's future stars. But this article is about CURRENT CFL stars. So, today, I will predict which 5 receivers will lead the league in yards in 2024.
#5: SAMUEL EMILUS
What a huge year 2023 was for Sam Emilus. In the second game of the season, and the first home game of the year for the Riders, he caught 3 touchdown passes from Trevor Harris. Before Harris went down with injury, Emilus was one of his favourite targets. And even after the fact, he was one of the favourite targets of both backup quarterbacks for the Riders, that being Mason Fine and Jake Dolegala. I believe he will build on his success in 2024 and continue to be an absolute threat to any secondary with his spectacular high-point catches.
#4: NIC DEMSKI
There's a reason why Demski isn't higher on this list. I believe the reason why is because we may see a bit of a retraction in the level of play of the Bombers. If you look at any standings list, they almost all have BC above Winnipeg. This doesn't mean they won't be good. They still have many elite players on their roster, and we may still see the same level of success from the Bombers. Demski is an elite receiver who is all over the field and causes defences to revolve around him. We'll see if Zach Collaros, who turns 36 in August, can lead his receivers to the top of the lists again in 2024.
#3: EUGENE LEWIS
The Elks may have a resurgence in 2024 off the arm of McLeod Bethel-Thompson. He led the Argos to the promised land in 2022, so it may be interesting to see if he can do it again with a new club in 2024. Add Tre Ford, and the Elks have a scary quarterback tandem, which would have been unheard of in 2022/23. Eugene Lewis is one of, if not the best receiver in the CFL. With Taylor Cornelius gone and 2 solid options at quarterback, I believe we'll see a whole lotta Geno in 2024.
#2: TIM WHITE
Now Tim White may not actually get to this milestone next season. But for the money he's making, he needs to put up these kind of numbers for 2024. He's without a doubt one of the best receivers in the CFL, and he will be THE #1 target for quarterbacks in TigerTown. I don't believe any other receiver on the team has the same stature as Tim White. He will dominate the defence as we know him to do, as he will have to put up at least 1,000 yards to justify his huge paycheck.
#1: DOMINIQUE RHYMES
Dominique Rhymes left the powerhouse BC Lions in free agency this year to go to where his career started, in Ottawa. The only two other receivers I would consider big names on Ottawa are Jaelon Acklin and Justin Hardy, and I don't personally think either is going to be Ottawa's number one guy. Rhymes, on the other hand, was already a top target on the amazing BC Lions team from 2023, and he can absolutely build off that in 2024 on a less fortunate and playoff-yearning team in Ottawa.
